I was born and raised in the upper Midwest and graduated from Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1987. At Calvin, I met my wife, Kathy, and we lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for 13 years. Kathy pursued a career in teaching, and I worked in sales and later in youth ministry. We have two adult children, both of whom we adopted as infants.
After moving to Southern California, I earned a master of divinity degree from Westminster Seminary California in 2005. I served for 18 years as an associate pastor at New Life Presbyterian Church in Escondido, California, focusing on teaching, seminary intern oversight, men’s and seniors’ ministries, counseling, and establishing the church’s disability ministry.
Kathy now works as an editor for Haven Ministries. Together, she and I have learned much and have been humbled often, especially through parenting our son who has significant disabilities. I enjoy biking, hiking, a good cup of coffee, and California’s absence of mosquitoes. What gives me the greatest joy, however, is pointing people to Jesus.
