Teacher: Ashley Belknap, Director of Engaging Disability With The Gospel
Churches often place high value on quiet, compliant behavior from children. Many children with special needs exhibit difficult behavior in the classroom. This can result in relational challenges between teachers, students, parents, and volunteers in the church.
This online training will introduce key concepts to help you understand the nature of problem behavior, why it occurs, and what behaviors communicate. We’ll discuss ways you can promote more appropriate communication in your classrooms with the goal of reaching every child with the gospel.
Topics we will cover:
- The role of communication in the learning process
- A gospel-centered understanding of behavior
- The nature of reinforcement and how it works
- Training volunteers and buddies to work with children who exhibit problematic behaviors
