Disability Ministry at the Forefront of Church Leadership

Reflections from the 2026 Disability and the Church Conference
I was thrilled to attend the recent Key Ministry conference in Vienna, VA. Our board chair, Stephanie Hubach, spoke highly of this event, and it exceeded every expectation. The sheer number of Christian organizations championing disability inclusion was profoundly encouraging. It is clear that disability ministry is coming to the forefront in church leadership today.

During the conference, I attended an impactful workshop led by Lori Sealy, a Christian speaker and songwriter. Lori shared her journey with autism with remarkable candor and openness. Her life is a beautiful testament to the fact that she is foremost a child of God, using her unique perspective and life’s obstacles to minister to others.
I was also deeply moved by a conversation with one of the speakers who is father to a child with Down syndrome. His passion for helping churches fully embrace individuals with disabilities—inspired by his own daughter’s vibrant faith—left me incredibly inspired.
Sitting under the teaching of Steph Hubach at the conference reminded me of how blessed we are to have her leadership. Her honesty and deep commitment to the intersection of faith and disability are unmatched.
Stories and insights I have heard since the conference have reaffirmed the urgency of our mission. Would you continue to cover me and Engaging Disability With The Gospel in your prayers? We have a monumental task ahead, and your faithful support is vital as we walk together into what God has planned for this ministry.
