Director of Mental Health Ministries
Full-Time | 40 hours
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership Training
- Come alongside pastors who have been diagnosed with mental health disorders to offer pastoral encouragement and counsel
- Interact with pastors, elders, and deacons for intentional equipping to best engage, shepherd, and disciple church members who are impacted by mental health disorders
- Offer ongoing support to church leaders and volunteers through virtual consultations
- Deliver high-quality, creative teaching, online and on-site, on various topics of engaging mental health concerns in the church to promote discipleship and enfolding into the congregation
- Resource our ministry partner organizations with teaching, training, and resources
Staff and Resource Development
- Build a staff team of specialists in various areas of mental health, including mood disorders, anxiety and depression, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder
- Oversee the development of an expanding library of pastoral and practical resources for churches
- Develop a team of contributors for new resources that are biblically accurate and consistent with physiological components of mental health
Teaching, Preaching, and Training
- Develop ongoing mutual relationships with churches which want to engage mental health concerns across their congregations
- Preach online and in person, particularly on pastoral concerns in mental health ministry
- Provide training and ministry consultations online and in person
Desired Qualifications
- A Christian whose life reflects mature, spiritual growth and is active in a local reformed, evangelical church
- Master’s degree in divinity or theology from an accredited, theologically reformed or other conservative seminary required
- Passion for seeing mental health ministry strengthened in the local church
- Strong ability to connect with and relate to people who are suffering
- Spiritual leadership: a heart for prayer, commitment to personal growth, and consistent dependence on Jesus
- A track record of wise, helpful, grace-based problem solving
- Excellent communicator, both orally and in writing
- Proven affinity for studying, learning, collaborating/connecting with others for personal growth and understanding in mental health ministry
- Intuitively develops healthy boundaries when working with people with high-needs and a willingness to engage without enabling dependency
- Positive, humble attitude with willingness to grow and learn from others
- Creativity and resourcefulness; easily thinks outside the box for solutions and strategizing
- Flexibility, a team player, steadiness, slow to react in high-pressure situations
- Ability to motivate and lead teams and individuals
- Demonstrated commitment to individuals and families impacted by disability
- Adhere to the Reformed view of the Christian faith
- Ability to work from home, with a non-traditional schedule, and with occasional overnight travel out-of-town
Compensation and Terms
Engaging Disability With The Gospel offers a generous, comprehensive compensation and benefits package, commensurate with experience. All staff members are missionaries and responsible for raising financial support to cover their employment costs.
