Guided by the conviction that God has made every individual uniquely special, my work with Engaging Disability is focused on leading an incredible team to serve and minister to people with disabilities, their families, and their churches.
“God’s sovereignty is beautifully evident in the uniqueness of every person. In my work, I’ve found that people who have disabilities often provide a more profound ministry to me than I do to them. Their lives are a vibrant reflection of the gospel. It is my deepest desire to walk alongside families and churches, helping everyone involved realize the unique and powerful calling God has placed on their lives.”
Brent’s journey into this calling began after 14 years as a youth minister in Thomson, Georgia. He then earned a master of divinity degree from Erskine Theological Seminary, and in 2001, he became an associate pastor in Greenville, South Carolina. After earning a doctor of ministry degree from Erskine Seminary, he became the executive director for Christian Education Ministries (CEM) of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
While serving with CEM, Brent directed Camp Joy, a special needs camp that profoundly changed his perspective of ministry. Serving as the director of Camp Joy for 16 years, he witnessed the ministry’s expansion from two to nine camps across several states.
Inspired by the love and vision of Ann Brice, Camp Joy’s founder, he deeply understands the vital role that churches play in caring for and loving people impacted by disability. He is now dedicated to carrying forward this mission with Engaging Disability.
In his spare time, Brent enjoys spending time with his wife, Grae, their two childeren, four grandchildren, and fitting in a round of golf whenever he can.
