Engaging Disability With The Gospel is the disability ministry arm of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). At the heart of this ministry are individuals whose lives have been impacted by disability. As we come alongside them with the gospel, individuals, families, churches, and communities are changed.
The Gospel Changes Everything…Including Disability
In this ministry, we serve people touched by disability and we serve PCA churches. We take the gospel into every aspect of ministry because we want to see individuals with disabilities growing in their faith, becoming enfolded into congregations, and serving alongside church members. We want to see churches embracing needs authentically, responding with mutual and genuine relationships, and becoming confident in their ability to make adaptations where necessary.
Without the gospel, our aim would be to include people with disabilities in what we do – but inclusion alone does not produce spiritual growth. With the gospel applied to every area of what we do – across every ministry within the church and every stage of life, we delight in seeing individuals with disabilities enfolded into church body life, with hearts yielding and growing in the Lord.
Engaging Disability with the Gospel means that we desire to see every person touched by disability in relationships with both God and fellow believers.
We don’t like to see churches setting up separate, designated programs to serve only people touched by disability. We do like to see individuals with disabilities and their families integrated into the already-existing ministries in their local churches, and we are here to help with the adaptations and accommodations to make that happen.
We are not here to tell families what to do. We are here to facilitate spiritual growth with appropriate adaptations and accommodations. We want to foster a love for the Lord and His church within the family unit. We want to help families connect to local churches and to one another. We want to help churches enfold individuals with disabilities into every area of church body life.
We are here to embrace disability with the gospel, because the gospel changes everything.
